Last Friday (27 February), was my last ever day of work.
When I started my first proper job back in 2000, if you told me I would be retiring 26 years later at the age of 46 I would have thought I had struck it lucky and would be free to spend the next half of my life lounging around in my dressing gown, eating fish finger sandwiches. Alas it hasn’t quite panned out that way.
But on the plus side I am feeling really good and hope to continue to do so for a while yet, and fully intend to get a decent number of years in to enjoy myself and make the most of however long it is I have left.
In the end the choice of ill-health retirement made sense. I will get a good monthly pension, and my sick pay was due to wind down to half pay, and I think it would be a struggle to work 5 days a week, full-time. My final employers have been fantastic to me, and I will be forever grateful to them for their kindness and consideration (and the lovely hamper, pictured above, they gave me on my last day).
So what now? I’ll look into doing some volunteering, I want to keep running and get back to CrossFit, see friends, go to the cinema, go on holidays, and generally live the best life I can whilst I can. Oh and anyone reading this, who has time off in the week and fancies a run/coffee/beer please get in touch!
To anyone who I have worked with over the years reading this, thank you for playing a part in my life and thank you for your friendship (unless you didn’t like me).
May you have many happy years or retirement ahead of you. I’ll be in touch for a Thursday catch up… a walk and a coffee would be great!
Lovely, would be good to catch up!
‘Not like you’ that’s an impossibility!! We know you would never have sat around eating fish finger sandwiches; enjoy retirement and live your best life. We are here for you anytime for an electric bike ride, walk, dinner, drink, listening ear/hugs but may be not the run because we couldn’t keep up with you! Love all your friends at Benenden School x
Thank you so much you guys, really appreciate it, and I’d love to catch up soon! Miss you all! x
Steve, I would meet up for a run but I couldn’t keep up with you! 💥😅 Enjoy every moment ♥️ Faith x
Haha, any run is a good run no matter the pace or the distance! Thanks Faith! x
